The College of Medicine invites applications from qualified individuals for a full time Assistant Professor – One Year Term position in the department of Community Health & Epidemiology.  The successful candidate will be required to 1) contribute to teaching community health and epidemiology in the undergraduate, postgraduate medical curricula and in MSc and PhD programs and chair the Medicine and Society 4 courses; 2) be involved in clinical research.

The Department of Community Health and Epidemiology is a dynamic, cohesive academic department comprising 15 faculty and 34 associate and clinical faculty, located in the Academic Health Sciences Building. We have active graduate programs at the Masters and doctoral levels, and make a vital contribution to the undergraduate education of medical and health sciences students and postgraduate education with the Public Health and Preventative Medicine Residency Program. Areas of current research excellence include child health, Aboriginal peoples’ health, global health, social epidemiology, health inequities, biostatistical applications to chronic diseases, public health practice, and knowledge transfer. An emphasis on health equity and community engagement underlies all our work. We have strong relationships with a wide range of community-based organizations and government agencies and partner with research units such as the Saskatchewan Population Health Research and Evaluation Unit, Public Health Observatory, Saskatoon Health Region, Community University Institute for Social Research. Clinical opportunities are available in Public Health or other settings. Evolving partnership with the School of Public Health and the campus wide One Health research initiative present opportunities for collaboration on joint mentorship of students and teaching in graduate programs.

Qualifications

Candidates will have a clinical background and a PhD degree in Health services, Epidemiology and/or Population Health. In light of the increasing interest in providing service learning opportunities in the undergraduate medical curriculum such as Making the Links (www.makingthelinks.usask.ca/) as well as in using distributed learning technologies, experience and interest in working in underserved areas (rural, remote, inner-city) and with marginalized populations in Canada or elsewhere would be very desirable and build on growing strengths.

Salary bands for this position are as follows: Assistant Professor: $93,293 to $112,109. This position includes a comprehensive benefits package which includes a dental, health and extended vision care plan; pension plan, life insurance (compulsory and voluntary), academic long term disability, sick leave, travel insurance, death benefits, an employee assistance program, a professional expense allowance, and a flexible health and wellness spending program.
