 Primary Purpose:  The Saskatchewan Centre for Patient-Oriented Research (SCPOR) builds on capacity and collaborations to conduct responsive, equitable, innovative, patient-oriented research that continuously improves the care and health of Saskatchewan people. SCPOR Programs incorporate the efforts of communities, provincial ministries, the healthcare system, and post-secondary academic organizations to effectively translate evidence-based innovations into practice across Saskatchewan, including rural, remote, and Indigenous communities.  SCPOR carries out core functions (platforms) including, data services; knowledge translation, training, and capacity building; methods support; patient engagement and empowerment; Indigenous research and engagement expertise; and consultation and research services. SCPOR staff work as a provincial team, drawing upon and capitalizing on diverse strengths and interests, and linking with other Canadian CIHR SUPPORT Units as required. 

SCPOR is geographically placed in Saskatoon and Regina sites to fully take advantage of pre-existing resources offered in both locations. However, strategic working relationships are built throughout the whole province with the use of video and teleconferencing services as well as in-person visits.     

 

Nature of Work: Reporting to the Executive Director or Associate Director as delegated by the Executive Director of SCPOR, SCPOR Program Facilitators work with the SCPOR Platform Leaders and with SCPOR Program Oversight Committees to support their assigned two-year, patient-oriented research programs - as this work is manifested across Saskatchewan within a complex and evolving health system and academic landscape. SCPOR Program Facilitators are a rich resource to SCPOR Programs. Drawing upon a complex network of relationships that include SCPOR stakeholders and diverse communities across Saskatchewan, SCPOR Program Facilitators facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned Programs, and manage the resourcing and development of sub-projects within their assigned Programs, as Programs develop across diverse communities. With a thorough understanding of patient-oriented research, SCPOR facilitators negotiate with SCPOR Platform Leads, to secure resources (human and other) within the five SCPOR platforms as needed to meet the planned program of work. SCPOR Program Facilitators ensure robust linkages between SCPOR Programs and the diverse communities where Program work takes place. SCPOR facilitators ensure that program milestones are met. They manage SCPOR program resources to ensure that program team members have been thoroughly trained; teams are working effectively and managing any conflicts that arise. They ensure effective stewardship of resources (human and other) and ensure that supports including travel, communications, etc., are meeting the needs of SCPOR Programs. SCPOR Program Facilitators may be assigned to provide support to SPOR Networks and other patient-oriented research in Saskatchewan (dependent upon SCPOR capacity). SCPOR Program Facilitators will have a sound working knowledge of a breadth of health research approaches and methodologies and project management experience in a research/health care context. Travel within the community and within the province of Saskatchewan will be required; a valid SK driver’s license is required. The SCPOR Program Facilitator carries out his/her responsibilities within highly nuanced interpersonal situations and requires comfort and dexterity in managing competing and often novel demands.

 

Accountabilities

  • Provides facilitation in the design, implementation and evaluation of patient-oriented research program and studies in collaboration with SCPOR Platform Leads
  • Manages project timelines and obtains “buy-in” from diverse stakeholders (including clinicians, policy/decision makers, academics, trainees, patient and family a, and community representatives)
  • Facilitates program-specific knowledge translation activities in collaboration with SCPOR Platform Leads (publications, presentations, other forms of KT)
  • Facilitates and develops interdisciplinary and cross-sector patient-oriented research
  • Develops and maintains relationships among SCPOR stakeholder organizations and diverse communities supporting the work of SCPOR
  • Develops and maintains internal working relationships required for the conduct of SCPOR Programs
  • Garners consensus regarding the patient-oriented research design of SCPOR programs
  • Supports external review of SCPOR Programs and Program components with the Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation (SHRF)
  • Supports robust liaison with research ethics boards in support of prompt and thorough review of SCPOR Programs and Program components
  • Works with appropriate financial officers of SCPOR stakeholders to oversee SCPOR Program budgets and stewardship of resources
  • Works with SCPOR stakeholders and other sponsors to ensure appropriate individuals across these organizations are aware of SCPOR plans, activities, outcomes and impacts


Qualifications  

Education: Graduate degree in a relevant discipline.

 

Experience: A minimum of three years of relevant work experience. Research facilitation of diverse groups and/or health system change management; project management and experience facilitating teamwork; strong organizational skills and attention to follow-through. Upholds respect for diversity and cultural safety; experience working with rural and First Nations and/or Métis organizations or communities is an important asset. Research experience with conceptualizing patient-oriented research problems; design, implementation and evaluation of complex and/or multi-sited initiatives; appreciation for, and dexterity with, various research approaches and methodologies; synthesis of findings across quantitative and/or qualitative approaches. Experience with patient-oriented research and community-based research is an asset. Experience with designing and completing project evaluations; experience in the presentation of policy papers, publications, and reports; ability to prepare written reports and display data in a concise and easy-to-understand manner. Experience and knowledge of research funding processes, research ethics and project management would be an asset.
